Flexible sugar silo

Syvrac flexible silos for sugar guarantee fluid and secure storage of bulk sugars, protecting the material against moisture and the formation of lumps. Thanks to their reinforced textile and vibrating base, they allow for extraction without mass caking of the sugar. Our silos ensure the feeding of production lines for confectionery, biscuit factories, and other chocolate manufacturers.

Description

Sugar storage presents specific challenges, particularly its sensitivity to moisture. This hygroscopicity can lead to the formation of lumps or mass caking of the sugar. Syvrac flexible silos are designed with technical materials that prevent condensation and can be made hermetic under certain conditions with connection to an external dehumidifier to ensure optimal preservation.

Sugar extraction is facilitated by a vibrating base. In some cases, sugar extraction can be aided by the addition of vibro-fluidizers or fluidization nozzles, ensuring complete and homogeneous discharge. These silos are also designed to prevent static electricity and comply with ATEX standards, which are essential for storing sugar, a potentially explosive powder in confined environments.

Syvrac’s Easyvrac® patent allows for very rapid replacement of flexible sugar silo fabrics.

Thanks to their flexible and adaptable design, Syvrac silos allow for quick indoor installation, optimizing storage surfaces and facilitating integration with dosing, pneumatic transfer, and industrial weighing systems.

Key Features

  • Storage Capacities: From 5 to 120m³
  • Food Compliance: CE1935/2004 and FDA
  • Full ATEX Compatibility
  • Easyvrac® Concept (Syvrac Patent)
  • Suitable for granulated sugar, powdered sugar, icing sugar (with anti-caking agent), and brown sugar

Protection Against Moisture

The main issue when discussing sugar storage in a silo is moisture management. Since a flexible silo is installed indoors, the environment is generally drier than outdoors, meaning the risk of mass caking is reduced. However, for areas with high humidity levels, Syvrac offers airtight flexible silos, featuring an hermetic roof in addition to the side walls. This configuration allows for the integration of an industrial dehumidifier, ensuring precise control of the internal humidity level and preventing the mass caking of sugar.

Sugar Silo Flow and Discharge

Sugar can be difficult to discharge due to its crystalline structure and its tendency to compact. Even when the product is perfectly dry, it can form bridges or arches inside the silos, blocking the natural flow. To overcome these problems, Syvrac flexible silos are equipped with vibrating bases, transmitting vibrations throughout the entire fabric and allowing arches to be broken. For the most complex cases, vibro-fluidizers can be added to aerate the product with dry air and improve its fluidity.

ATEX Safety

Sugar, in the form of fine suspended powder, is classified as an explosive product due to its capacity to form explosive atmospheres (ATEX). Syvrac designs its flexible silos according to the strictest safety standards, including:

  • Grounding and electrical continuity of structures;
  • The use of anti-static fabric and ATEX-certified accessories;
  • The use of anti-explosion systems on downstream dosing equipment.

Types of Sugars Stored

Syvrac flexible silos are suitable for all types of sugar, each with its specific characteristics:

  • Granulated Sugar (Sucre cristal): Easy to store and handle, it remains one of the simplest to manage in a silo;
  • Brown Sugar: Sensitive to moisture, it requires strict control of storage conditions;
  • Pearl Sugar: Used in baking and pastry-making, it may require vibrating bases to prevent the accumulation of pieces at the outlet;
  • Icing Sugar (Powdered Sugar): Extremely volatile and prone to caking. It is crucial to ensure this sugar contains an anti-caking agent before storage, otherwise, it risks hardening and completely blocking extraction.

Hygiene and Sugar Storage

As sugar is a food product, its storage must meet the strict requirements of the agri-food industry.

The main risks are:

  • Pest infestation (insects, rodents): Prevention through hermetic silos and specific treatments;
  • Cross-contamination: Our flexible silos ensure dedicated and sealed storage for each batch of sugar. Their low cost allows for the multiplication of sugar storage cells per batch;
  • Development of micro-organisms: Moisture management and regular cleaning are essential;
  • Residue accumulation: Our solutions allow for effective cleaning, with brushing, vacuuming, and washing options, notably thanks to our Easyvrac® patent.

Why Choose Syvrac for Sugar Storage?

Syvrac is the leader in bulk sugar storage solutions, with installations deployed in sugar refineries, biscuit factories, confectioneries, and all agri-food industries. We master all constraints related to sugar storage, whether it is protection against humidity, ATEX management, extraction, or compliance with sanitary standards. Thanks to our innovations, such as the Easyvrac® patent, we facilitate the maintenance and adaptation of silos to production changes.
