Storage silos for finished food products
In a context where efficiency and sustainability have become priorities for the electronics industry, a major player in eastern France is innovating by transforming its ESD plastics handling processes. Thanks to the installation of an industrial marquee and automated silos, the company is reducing material losses and improving resource management, while minimising its environmental impact. Discover how this pioneering solution reinforces the company’s ecological and operational commitment, while optimising employee comfort and safety.
The customer’s challenge
Our customer’s main objective was to ensure that the storage areas complied with current food standards. Two initial solutions were considered: stainless steel silos or sheet metal silos with food-grade paint applied to the interior. However, installing these silos would have required them to be lifted over the building due to the installation of an intermediate frame, which would have limited their capacity compared to alternative solutions.
The handling solution provided by Syvrac
The solution proposed by Syvrac is based on the installation of 12 flexible silos, each with an individual capacity of 51 m³, allowing for a total storage capacity of over 600 m³. This system provides great flexibility in supplying the packaging lines while ensuring accurate real-time stock monitoring thanks to a Précia Molen weighing system.
Details of the proposed solution
Silo frames
- The silos, each with a capacity of 51 m³, were custom-designed to meet the customer’s specific requirements. Each measures 4,000 mm x 4,000 mm with a height of 9,500 mm, allowing up to 40 tonnes to be stored per silo. The surface treatment, carried out by powder coating in RAL 1013, guarantees a high-quality finish, suitable for food environments.
The silo’s metal frame, weighing approximately 3 tonnes per unit, is made of 120 mm x 120 mm square tubes with a thickness of 5 mm, ensuring optimal stability. The legs, divided into three sections, facilitate production, transport and on-site assembly. In addition, the 4,600 mm ground clearance allows for efficient gravity emptying into the recovery system. - To prevent the risk of buckling of the legs, a horizontal level has been added between the ground and the first attachment point of the canvas. This device, reinforced by eight integral braces, effectively distributes the loads on the ground. Finally, a load study is systematically carried out before each installation to validate the concrete foundations.
Silo tarpaulins
- Silo tarpaulins are made from resistant polyester fabric that is antistatic, offering high durability. The roof is equipped with breathable felt allowing the silo to decompress during pneumatic loading. Numerous horizontal and vertical reinforcements are sewn in to ensure the structure’s strength.
- Syvrac has patented the Easyvrac® system, which allows the canvas to be quickly assembled and disassembled without having to dismantle the frame. This innovative technology has been successfully tested and has already been in use for three years by our first customers. The system consists of Ø 20 mm drawn round tubes, laser-cut clips and stop rings. The canvas is cut specifically to accommodate this attachment system once positioned around the horizontal crossbars.
The fastening is doubled at the first level, as 60% of the silo load is supported at this point. The forces decrease as you move up the levels.
The vibrating bottom
- The silo bottom, made entirely of stainless steel, is guaranteed for optimal food contact. A vibrator is positioned to facilitate the descent of products, thus allowing optimal emptying of the screens before refilling. The system is equipped with a pneumatically controlled maintenance valve, which isolates the silo in the event of work being carried out on the conveyor system downstream of the silo.
Weighing
- Four 20-tonne double shear load cells are installed between the compression interfaces. These load cells are calibrated in collaboration with the manufacturer to ensure optimum accuracy. The data is transmitted via I40 displays, allowing the customer to monitor the weight of the products in real time via a communication gateway. The sensors are positioned on load plates attached to the legs of the silos, ensuring weighing stability and accurate readings.
The advantages of the Syvrac solution
The Syvrac solution offers optimised storage capacity with 12 flexible silos, each with a capacity of 51 m³, in compliance with food standards. The custom-made silos ensure stability and durability, with quick assembly/disassembly thanks to the Easyvrac® system. The stainless steel vibrating bottom facilitates emptying, and accurate real-time weighing allows for effective stock monitoring, ensuring optimal management of dried vegetables.
This innovative and robust solution enables our customer to meet food requirements while optimising the storage and packaging of dried vegetables. The flexible and efficient system also offers accurate stock tracking, ensuring optimal management of products prior to packaging.
