Description

The weighing system of a silo is based on the integration of force sensors using the Wheatstone bridge principle, capable of measuring the load contained in a storage cell and transmitting the information to a weighing indicator. These sensors, also called load cells, are installed under each silo leg or on its supporting structure.

Let’s focus on two types of weighing components commonly used in Syvrac installations:

  • The DSL double shear beam load cell (20 to 100 t), ideal for rigid silos and tanks exposed to thermal or mechanical variations. Its design, insensitive to lateral forces, ensures optimal accuracy even under demanding conditions.
  • The TSL-INT compression load cell (2.5 to 30 t), more compact, is perfect for retrofits and weighing of existing hoppers and tanks. Hermetically sealed and available in ATEX version, it offers increased reliability and ease of installation.

Our solutions also include specific mounting kits designed to dampen vibrations and minimize the impact of environmental variations on weighing accuracy. We provide complete weighing systems with indicators, transmitters, and interface software compatible with major industrial supervision systems (SCADA, PLC, ERP).

Main features

  • Compatible with all types of silos: stainless steel, carbon steel, aluminum, resin, fabric, and flexible silos
  • Complete silo weighing chain managed by Syvrac
  • Wide measurement range: from 2.5 t to 100 t
  • ATEX solutions available for explosive zones

How does an industrial weighing system work?

An industrial silo weighing system is based on the integration of load cells strategically placed under the silo supports. These sensors measure the stress exerted by the load and convert it into a proportional electrical signal. The information is then transmitted to a weighing indicator, which interprets it and displays the stored mass. Calibration is an essential step in the weighing process. It ensures measurement accuracy according to the characteristics of the installed sensors. It is based on two key parameters: the measurement increment and the measuring range of the sensor. The measurement increment represents the smallest detectable weight variation by the system, while the measuring range corresponds to the maximum load the sensor can measure without losing accuracy. Silo calibration is a critical and complex step perfectly mastered by Syvrac. Periodically, a correction of the sensor response curve may be applied to improve measurement accuracy, particularly in cases of thermal expansion or mechanical constraints imposed by the silo structure.

Mounting of load cells for accurate weighing

To ensure reliable and precise weighing, the orientation of the load cells during installation is an important step. A silo is typically mounted on four load cells and must maintain inclination angles between 3° and 5°; otherwise, the entire system’s accuracy may be compromised. Load compensation systems prevent errors caused by thermal expansion or mechanical variations. Proper positioning and alignment of the load cells minimize measurement deviations and ensure high weighing accuracy.

Weighing alarm management

SYVRAC weighing systems allow the integration of several types of alarms to ensure optimal stock monitoring. Three alarms are directly managed by the I40 weighing indicators: empty silo, full silo, and critical weighing threshold to prevent dosing errors. Additional alarms can be configured in the supervision system to monitor anomalies such as a load imbalance, sensor error, or loss of weighing signal. These alarms ensure real-time monitoring and rapid response in the event of an anomaly.

Compatibility with all types of silos and powders

Industrial load cells can be installed on all types of silos, including rigid silos, stainless steel or galvanized steel silos, concrete silos, as well as flexible silos or technical fabric silos. They are suitable for storing food powders (flour, sugar, milk powder, spices), chemical powders (fertilizers, pigments, oxides), pharmaceutical powders (excipients, active ingredients), and plastic granules. Thanks to their modularity and compatibility with various sensor brands (Precia Molen, Mettler Toledo, Scaime, HBM, Vishay), these solutions ensure precise and efficient management of industrial silo weighing.
